Our journey continues today up river, two hours by boat, to the Shipibo Indian tribe of Limogena and the village of San Juan. The Ucayali river is swollen and flood waters fill the low lying areas in both settlements.

On the way we discuss a new project with Missionary Sister Freshia. Pure Art will help build a much needed women’s health clinic on the outskirts of Pucallpa. More details to follow tomorrow when a smaller group explores this area in the morning.

We are greeted warmly and follow on dry land to the village centre where beautiful Shipibo hand-crafted textiles are displayed. The Pure Art Boutique will purchase another shipment of traditional hand woven products through a fair trade exchange with these talented artisans.

Manual sewing machines provided by Pure Art to these industrious and hard working women, results in wonderful products filled with light and color and bound for Canada.
The sewing initiative has provided income not only for the artisans, but for their community as well. This small, but important advance will open doors for future development as the number of women sewing and quality of product  vastly improves.

Next stop is San Juan where village elders tell the group that many social injustices here  need positive action through a solid human rights program. We discuss how Pure Art can collaborate together with the people of San Juan, while working within the mandate of Pure Art Foundation to alleviate poverty.

We return back to the port of Pucallpa with new knowledge of what we needs to be done to help improve the lives of the people of this area.
One thing is clear… we will return!

Parting shot of the end of day on the Ucayali River. It has been a full day!

  1. I can see that the Pure Art ‘creative wheel’ of living, dying and rebirthing is fully active on the ‘path of the heart’ – I am with you all the ‘flying wakas’ above you sisterella. Hello to everyone and a gentle reminder to look up to the sky as much as around and down…I am sitting in the Galleries de Hull, waiting for the organizer to lead me to my Creative Wheel / LaRoccaXC booth since this weekend (March 17/18) is the 15th summer camp fair – the biggest in the Outaouais. I will be ‘chained’ to my booth all weekend…grounded! Love you all. Thinking of you daily and ‘feeling’ all the joy you are all feeling on the path of freedom, wisdom and compassion. We live ONE life! ONE adventure! ONE beautiful moment in the cave of our heart! SHUNGO! Tante (Tente) Dominique

  2. Thank you for the heart warming comment! We are back home safe with memories that will bring smiles for many years to come! The Pure Art journey is just starting!
